Product Details

Alternanthera reineckii "Rosanervig" is a beautiful, vibrant aquarium plant known for its striking red veins and greenish foliage. It’s relatively easy to care for when the right conditions are provided. Here's a guide to help you maintain a healthy plant:

Lighting

  • Intensity: Requires medium to high light to maintain its colorful appearance, especially the vibrant pink veins. Without enough light, it may revert to a duller green color.
  • Type of Light: Fluorescent, LED, or metal halide lights are ideal. Ensure the plant gets at least 8–10 hours of light daily.

Water Parameters

  • Temperature: Best between 22–28°C (72–82°F).
  • pH: Prefers a slightly acidic to neutral pH, around 6.0 to 7.5.
  • Hardness: Thrives in soft to moderately hard water, but it can adapt to a variety of water hardness levels.
  • CO2: While it’s not strictly necessary, adding CO2 supplementation will help it grow more vigorously and produce better colors.

Substrate

  • Alternanthera "Rosanervig" grows best in a nutrient-rich substrate. A fine-gravel or aquarium soil will work well as it allows the roots to absorb nutrients efficiently.
  • It benefits from a substrate rich in iron and micronutrients, which help bring out the plant’s vibrant colors.

Fertilization

  • Regular fertilization is essential. Use a liquid fertilizer that contains micronutrients, especially iron, which is crucial for its color development.
  • Root tabs can also be used if the plant is planted in substrate without rich nutrients. Add these around the roots every few months.

Pruning

  • This plant benefits from regular trimming. Cut back overgrown stems to encourage new growth and maintain its shape. Trimming also helps prevent the plant from becoming leggy.
  • If the lower leaves start to lose color or become yellow, trim the plant to maintain its health.

Propagation

  • Cuttings are the easiest way to propagate. Simply trim the top of the plant and replant the cutting in nutrient-rich substrate. It will root quickly and grow into a new plant.

Tankmates

  • Alternanthera "Rosanervig" isn’t particularly sensitive to other tank inhabitants, but it’s best to avoid plants that may outcompete it for light or nutrients. It does well with most peaceful fish and other plants in an aquarium.

Common Issues

  • Yellowing leaves: Could be a sign of insufficient nutrients (especially nitrogen, potassium, or iron) or low light. Increase the light and/or improve nutrient availability.
  • Leggy growth: Often caused by low light. Increase lighting intensity or duration.
  • Algae growth: If the plant is not properly pruned, excess algae may grow on the leaves. Regular trimming and good water circulation can help minimize this.

By following these care tips, your Alternanthera reineckii "Rosanervig" should thrive and add vibrant color to your aquarium!
