Few freshwater fish command attention quite like the Discus.
Renowned for their beautifully rounded bodies, graceful movement and extraordinary colours, Discus are among the most prestigious ornamental freshwater fish in the aquarium hobby. Our Assorted Discus collection offers a striking selection of colours and patterns, with each individual displaying its own unique character.
From brilliant reds and warm oranges to electric blues, turquoise tones and intricate patterns, these fish become true living centrepieces as they mature.
For the aquarist prepared to provide pristine water, warmth and exceptional care, Discus offer something truly special: an aquarium with unmistakable presence and sophistication.
Discus thrive when their environment is warm, clean and consistent. Excellent filtration and regular water changes are essential, as these premium fish perform best when water quality is maintained to a very high standard.
A premium fish deserves a premium diet.
Offer a varied selection of quality foods such as:
Feed appropriately sized portions and remove uneaten food to help maintain the pristine water conditions Discus demand.
Despite their impressive appearance, Discus are generally peaceful, social cichlids.
Tank mates should be selected carefully. Choose calm species that are comfortable at the higher temperatures preferred by Discus and that will not compete aggressively for food.
Avoid aggressive fish, persistent fin-nippers and species requiring substantially cooler water.
Discus are extraordinary in elegant, carefully designed aquariums.
Create a luxurious display using:
Their large, round silhouettes look particularly striking against deep green foliage and dramatic vertical wood, creating a sophisticated South American-inspired display.
Discus display fascinating parental behaviour.
When a compatible pair forms, they may select a vertical surface on which to spawn and protect their eggs and newly hatched young.
One of their most extraordinary characteristics is that newly hatched Discus fry can feed from a specialised secretion produced on the skin of their parents, creating an incredible bond between parent and offspring.
