Also known as the Female Siamese Fighting Fish
Assorted Female Bettas display a wide range of colors and fin types, offering the beauty of Bettas with a generally calmer temperament than males. While less aggressive, female Bettas still have strong personalities and require proper space, structure, and care to thrive.
Minimum Tank Size:
Single female: 20 litres
Sorority (5+ females): 60+ litres
Temperature: 24–28°C
pH: 6.5–7.5
GH: 4–12
KH: 2–8
TDS: 100–250 ppm
They prefer warm, stable water with gentle filtration. Heaters are essential, and sudden parameter changes should be avoided.
Create a calm, secure environment with:
Fine gravel or sand substrate
Live or silk plants for cover
Floating plants to soften lighting
Gentle filtration with low flow
Avoid sharp décor that may damage fins.
Female Bettas are omnivorous with carnivorous preference:
High-quality Betta pellets
Frozen or live foods (bloodworms, brine shrimp, daphnia)
Occasional high-protein treats
Feed 1–2 small meals daily, avoiding overfeeding.
Female Bettas can be peaceful but are still territorial.
Suitable tank mates:
Corydoras
Small Rasboras
Peaceful Tetras
Snails and shrimp (may be hunted)
Sorority guidelines:
Keep 5 or more females
Provide heavy planting and hiding spaces
Never mix males with females long-term
⚠️ Behavioral Note: Chasing and pecking is normal when establishing hierarchy. Excessive aggression requires separation.
Breeding is not recommended for casual aquarists.
