⚫ Assorted Rosetail Betta (Betta splendens) Care Guide
Also known as the Rosetail Male Betta
The Rosetail Betta is a selectively bred male Betta variety known for its extremely full, ruffled finnage that resembles rose petals. While visually stunning, the heavy fin structure requires calm environments and attentive care to prevent stress and fin damage.
Minimum Tank Size: 20 litres
Temperature: 24–28°C
pH: 6.5–7.5
GH: 4–12
KH: 2–8
TDS: 100–250 ppm
They thrive in warm, stable water with very gentle filtration. Strong currents should be avoided due to their heavy fins.
Create a calm, Betta-friendly environment with:
Fine gravel or sand substrate
Live or silk plants for resting
Floating plants to soften lighting
Gentle, low-flow filtration
Avoid sharp decorations that may tear delicate fins.
Rosetail Bettas are carnivorous omnivores:
High-quality Betta pellets
Frozen or live foods (bloodworms, brine shrimp, daphnia)
Occasional high-protein treats
Feed small portions 1–2 times daily, removing uneaten food promptly.
Male Bettas are territorial and aggressive toward other Bettas.
Suitable tank mates:
Corydoras
Small Rasboras
Peaceful snails
Avoid:
Other Bettas (male or female)
Fin-nipping fish
Fast or aggressive species
⚠️ Behavioral Note: Rosetail Bettas tire more easily due to heavy finnage, so calm tank mates and resting areas near the surface are essential.
Breeding Rosetail Bettas is not recommended for beginners.
Heavy finnage can cause complications
Overbreeding Rosetail traits may lead to fin and health issues
Responsible breeding is strongly advised.
Males:
Extremely full, ruffled finnage
Larger fins compared to body
Bright, varied coloration
Rosetail Bettas are an extreme fin variant of the Halfmoon Betta, and while breathtaking, they require gentler care than standard fin types due to their weight and sensitivity.
