Gobi Desert Rock is a structurally dynamic hardscape stone ideal for nature-style, Iwagumi, and high-contrast aquascapes. Characterised by its rugged surface texture, stratified detailing, and warm mineral tones, this stone creates strong visual depth and natural geological realism within freshwater layouts.
Its irregular contours and fissures provide excellent anchoring points for epiphytic plants such as Anubias, Bucephalandra, and mosses, while also encouraging biofilm development for shrimp and microfauna.
Natural sedimentary-style stone with layered texture
Medium to high surface complexity for enhanced biological colonisation
Suitable for Iwagumi, Nature Aquarium, and biotope layouts
Stable structure for stacking and terrace construction
Compatible with planted tanks and shrimp systems
Gobi Desert Rock may contain trace minerals. While generally suitable for freshwater aquariums, it can have a mild influence on KH and GH depending on your water chemistry and volume used. Pre-testing is recommended for sensitive caridina shrimp setups or soft-water aquascapes.
Primary focal stone (Oyaishi) in Iwagumi layouts
Supporting stones (Fukuishi/Soeishi) for perspective composition
Cliff and canyon-style hardscape structures
Nano tank feature stone
Shrimp tank grazing surface enhancement
Rinse thoroughly before use. For optimal stability in stacked layouts, position base stones directly on the aquarium glass before adding substrate. Epoxy or aquarium-safe adhesive can be used for complex structures.
Each piece is unique in shape, size, and colour variation, allowing for fully custom aquascape compositions.
