Provide a planted aquarium with hiding spots and open swimming space. Floating plants help diffuse light, which reduces stress and enhances their coloration.
Green Kubotai Rasboras are micro-predators and do well on a varied diet:
High-quality micro-pellets
Crushed tropical flakes
Live or frozen baby brine shrimp, daphnia, or microworms
Feed in small amounts once or twice daily to prevent overfeeding.
These rasboras are peaceful schooling fish. Always keep them in groups of at least 6, though 10 or more is ideal for more natural, confident behavior.
Compatible tank mates include:
Other peaceful nano fish (like ember tetras or chili rasboras)
Small Corydoras species (e.g., pygmy corys)
Otocinclus catfish
Freshwater shrimp (note: they may eat baby shrimp)
Avoid larger or aggressive fish that may harass or eat them.
Breeding is possible with the right setup:
Feed high-protein live foods to condition them
Provide fine-leaved plants or spawning mops for egg laying
They scatter eggs and may eat them, so remove adults after spawning
Fry can be raised on infusoria or powdered fry food
Even though they appear neon green, Green Kubotai Rasboras don’t have any actual green pigment. Their shimmering color is caused by light bouncing off microscopic guanine crystals in their skin—creating an optical illusion of vibrant green. It's a natural form of iridescence!
