Plakat Betta Male Care Guide

Tank Size:

• Minimum 20 liters (5 gallons).

• Larger tanks are always better for stability and enrichment.

Water Parameters:

• Temperature: 24–28°C

• pH: 6.0–7.5

• Hardness: Soft to moderately hard (3–12 dGH)

Tank Setup:

• Provide gentle filtration; strong currents stress them.

• Use live or silk plants, driftwood, and caves to create hiding spots.

• A lid is essential—bettas are jumpers!

• Floating plants add cover and mimic natural habitats.

Diet:

• Carnivorous—feed high-quality betta pellets, frozen or live foods like bloodworms, daphnia, and brine shrimp.

• Offer small portions 1–2 times daily to prevent overfeeding.

Behavior & Tank Mates:

• Plakat bettas are more active and stronger swimmers than long-finned varieties.

• Males are territorial and should not be kept with other male bettas.

• Suitable tank mates: peaceful fish like corydoras, kuhli loaches, ember tetras, or certain snails/shrimp (if the betta tolerates them).

• Avoid fin-nippers like tiger barbs or aggressive species.

Breeding:

• Males build bubble nests on the water surface.

• Conditioning with live foods helps stimulate breeding.

• Place male and female together only when ready to spawn, and remove the female after egg laying to prevent aggression.
